Poem: We the Mundane

By Quill Wylder

Less than flesh, none other but human

Absurded collective of spaghettified mass

Pollock of blood spats and macraméd intestinum

A grotesque caged mollusk dictates and decrees

And so believe? Believe this critter

Worthy of the title

Homunculus.

Live it up to Napoleon, Kahlo, Parks, Newton

Depart he on Odyssey,

Stand he on pedestal,

Die he, saber-weilding, grandiosely poised?

So say council of bacteria inhabiting flesh sack;

“We the mundane, we the tormented.”

He the mundane. He the tormented.

They; the exceptional.

The extraordinary.

The flagellum draped side saddle

Over Tardigrada haemocoel

More boldly to combat

Than phallic mass of thumb-minded

Numb-minded

Plucky politician-plumber-playwright

Manic, souped-up, neurosis-ridden

Hypochondrisuperficialcorpaldiagnosis.

Man.

Man, if so you can call he.

You - as if know you, we.

We! WE the collective! WE! the bacterium

Who build us

More than flesh build itself.

WE the mundane.

WE the tormented.

We the flagellum-bearing

as

Man once held bayonet

As homunculus once held

Sapien-sapien.

We. The mundane.
