Poem: Multum Lactatus

By: Sophia Nelson

The unseen moon’s marionette

reaches up and sinks down

with no mind for the

arms and fins that cut it

and break its surface foam.

you may ask why

in seizing undertows

it suspends your movements,

yanks your hands in paralysis

that you may not shield

your mind’s thin shell

but cares for nothing.

not you,

only the widening slopes of the moon.
